The two projects IRIOS-2 and CiA provided progress updates at the JISC hosted RIM3 Programme meeting. See below for a link to the IRIOS-2 presentation given by Simon Kerridge and Kevin Ginty. There were also presentations from RMAS, OSSWatch and JISC InfoKit.
Overall, the event was excellent and the projects have agreed a number of joint initiatives, including working with RMAS and potentially CASRAI.
Keep following the blog for updates on the projects progress.
Presentation: IRIOS-2 Overview
JISC have enhanced their Research Information Management infokit with the first wave of synthesis work from this year’s JISC projects. The infokit has been produced by Steve Bailey and Stuart Bolton from JISC infoNet.
View the ‘case studies’ section online to read about the ongoing project work within the University of Sunderland, University of Glasgow and University of St. Andrews.

the poster for the IRIOS-2 project has now been completed.
At the CIA CERIF workshop in Sunderland we have just had a good decision on how to implement links to IDs of external systems. hopefully there will be some concrete suggestions coming soon!
This discussion will continue of the CERIF TG Forum… So if you are interested watch that space.
Lizzie Dipple from Symplectic has just informed us that the BRUCE project final report (available soon) will have some CERIF issues listed that the project dealt with, which would probably be useful for others new to CERIF to learn from
Kevin Kiely, TCD
CERIFy
TCD RIS and TR incites, data exchange, two way
InCites uses separate fields for year, month, day
Brigitte did a mapping from InCites to CERIF
Ids are an issues again.. How should they be dealt with
they have a long list of supported publication types
Plenty of actual CERIF XML examples
In summary the system
passes CERIF XML data from the TCD CRIS to TR, they matched data and then returned TR metrics from InCites in CERIF XML back to the TCD CRIS. NB it was citation counts rather than a whole list of citations… But still useful!
Jason Young from TR also chipped in to the presentation and Q&A
Thomas Vestdam, Atira
CERIF XML fragmentation
Looking to have everything in one schema, if possible… To aid efficiency
Eg embed everything in cfOrgUnit that relates to it, including the link info.
Saw an example (in word wrangler)
So link entities can be in either end object, or just in the document
Helps with OAI with the web services due to efficiencies.
The new formatting can be used soon… For internal testing in the next few weeks.
Would hope it to be offered in CERIF 2.0
2.0 will be available early next year.
Atira will be testing the speed up during next year with the Flanders system, and also in the CIA project.
Just heard Mark Cox from Kings… Many interesting issues from the CERIF4REF project
NB it was at least one versions of CERIF ago.
Did mapping of RAE2008 data to CERIF
A couple of point…
Date of publication is a problem, the year (as in for referencing) may not be the same as the year of the date of publication
Also null problem for dates… Or parts of dates… Eg year known, but month not… How should this be dealt with?
Now listening to Robert Sanderson Ron NERC talking about how they converted RCUK SSC project data into CERIF for the IRIOS project.
They used Funding, electronicaddress, postaladdress, country, organisationunit, person, and of course project. There are some interesting issues with using uuids. Hopefully these will be addressed in the planned discussions on identifiers later today
